Abstract: This study provides insight into the role that species Dehalococcoides plays in the fields of bioremediation of chlorinated solvents and municipal wastewater treatment. The transcriptional kinetics of Dehalococcoides strain MB with respect to the metabolic dehalogenation of perchloroethylene (PCE) and trichloroethylene (TCE) was analyzed, and the expression of the reductive dehalogenase gene mbrA was mapped to the stepwise dechlorination of PCE. Additionally, the full genome of Dehaloccocoides strain 11a was closed using multiplex PCR, revealing the overall structure of the genome and the presence of a plasmid. Finally, the presence of Dehalococcoides at a model wastewater treatment plant was confirmed using microbial community analysis, and the changes in quantity of the group was mapped to both operational parameter changes and levels of various wastewater constituents over the course of one year.
